The DC Subject Files encompass decisions, reports and proposals on a variety of Defence related topics, such as the establishment of Military Committee and the Military Representatives Committee, activities of the Standing Group, such as the creation of the Military Standardization Agency, establishment of the Ocean Shipping Planning Board, reports from the Military Production and Supply Board, Strategic Planning proposals, reorganization documents, association of Greece and Turkey.

The Subject Series includes Directives, Proposals, Notes, Memoranda, Resolutions and Decisions by the Defence Committee created between 1949 and 1951. The Defence Committee primarily drafted these items and sent them to the North Atlantic Council, the Military Committee and the Standing Group.

The Document Series is organized thematically around 32 subjects. Each file begins with DC followed by numbers. For example, the first subject file is organized as DC-1, DC-1-1, DC-1-2, and DC-1-3.

Although all documents produced should have an official French and English version, not all of the translations were recovered and some documents may only be available in one language. Overall there are 103 English documents and 79 French documents.
