This series contains 7 memoranda from the first meeting of the Military Committee (MC) held on 6 October 1949. The MC was to provide policy guidance to its executive body, the Standing Group (SG). From the second meeting, held on 12 December 1949, the file naming format was changed from MM to MCM as can be seen in the eighth document, MCM-8-49.

The subject series includes memoranda as an outcome of the first meeting of the Military Committee in 1949. The documents consist of proposals, one directive, and meeting minutia generally regarding the establishment of procedures for the committee.

The MC communicated via formal memoranda which were assigned numbers in a single series. Those produced in 1949 were preceded by the initials “MM,” followed by a document sequence number, followed by the year (e.g. MM-1-49).
