The fonds covers documents, correspondence and memorandum from previous NATO Secretary Generals and documents of his direct staff in the Private Office and Executive Secretariat (today known as CONSEC). The Secretary General files covers all topics of the Alliance, from business of the North Atlantic Council, to appointments across the Alliance, and issues and directives to the International Staff.
The documents in the MC fonds consist of Military Committee and Standing Group reports and directives. The International Staff Fonds consists of files containing NATO documents, notes, records, memoranda and external correspondence relating to its operational functions and to its support for NATO committees and the North Atlantic Council.The Fonds also includes NATO produced publications, including press releases, reference publications and non-periodicals.
The Fonds includes Directives, Proposals, Notes, Memoranda, Resolutions and Decisions by the Defence Committee created between 1949 and 1951. The ACE fonds covers documents on the early history and development of NATO's integrated military structure and its staff through memorandums and letters. The majority of the documents originate from its headquarters, called SHAPE, though some documents pre-date the creation of ACE and SHAPE.
